Today’s Gospel: The Calling of Jesus Disciples and all of us Every Christian is called upon to be an influence for good in society. Christ’s mission is continued and extended when we bring the compassion of Jesus into the lives of others. Through our ordinary daily contacts with people especially with the lonely and those who feel rejected we can and ought to be instruments of acceptance, reconciliation and healing. We don’t have to go on the foreign missions in order to do that. For most Christians the home, the parish, the work-place are the mission territories where they have to spread the Gospel message as best they can Saint Teresa of Avila summed up beautifully the mission given to each of us through our Baptism when she wrote “Christ has no body now but yours, no hands, no feet on earth but yours, Yours are the eyes with which He looks with compassion on this world, Yours are the feet with which He walks to do good, Yours are the hands, with which He blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, Yours are the eyes, you are His body. Christ has no body now but yours. Each of us is called to be Christ’s living body for each other now and always
