In this Year of Pilgrimage of Hope, it is good to follow the Stations of the Cross as a mini pilgrimage. We are blessed to have beautiful Stations in each of our churches. It is nice to drop in to the Church during the day to pray and follow the Way of the Cross. The Stations of the Cross are a traditional Catholic practice during Lent, especially on Fridays, as a way to reflect on death of Jesus Christ. Each station represents a significant moment on Jesus’ journey to His crucifixion, from His condemnation to His burial. This practice allows Christians to spiritually walk with Jesus through His final hours, offering a deeper understanding of His sacrifice and love. It’s also a way of participating in His Passion, remembering the suffering He endured for the salvation of humanity. The reason it’s done during Lent is because Lent is a season of penance, prayer, almsgiving and reflection. The Stations of the Cross help individuals focus on the themes of sacrifice and redemption, which are central to the Lenten journey leading up to Easter. It’s an opportunity to meditate on Jesus’ suffering, and through that, grow closer to Him spiritually.
